Troubleshoot a MojoBox

A MojoBox that Will Not Open

MojoBoxes are designed to be highly weather resistant, but issues do happen. If you have a misbehaving MojoBox with an open key compartment, then please Complete a MojoBox Hardware and System Test‍.

If the key compartment door on the MojoBox is closed, then try entering an access code and follow the related steps.

No Response to Key Presses or Only a Red Light

  1. If the MojoBox appears to have no power, or if the red low battery indicator is displaying on the MojoBox, get a USB C cable and power source. Plug this into the side of the MojoBox. Give the MojoBox up to five minutes to fully charge its capacitor. Then try an access code.
  2. If the MojoBox has sufficient battery or USB C power and will not open from an access code, attempt a Bluetooth unlock from the MojoBox app.

Access Code Results in Green Light But Slider Will Not Move

In rare cases, the slider to unlock a MojoBox might become stuck. Specifically, the MojoBox accepts an access code, flashes a green light, but the slider cannot be moved.

This should be a rare case, usually involving an unreliable battery source (low batteries or a defective USB cable) and repeated unlock actions.

Normally, the issue can be resolved with sufficient brute force. Specifically:

  1. Enter an access code
  2. Watch for the green light.
  3. Within the first six seconds of the green light illuminating, use a strong and forceful finger (or thumb) push on the slider to unlock the unit.

Once resolved, this issue should not return (as long as the MojoBox is powered with good batteries). If this solution does not work (or you have a MojoBox where this is a recurring issue) please Contact ShowMojo Support‍.

MojoBox Battery Issues

If the keypad will not work after inserting batteries:

  • Check if the batteries are properly placed in the battery tray.
  • Re-insert the batteries, push or rotate the batteries until you hear a beep and the sound of the motor rotating, then, press any key on the keypad to see if the battery icon shows a green light. If it shows a green light, the access code unlock or Bluetooth unlock should work.
  • If you hear a beep and the sound of the motor rotating, but the battery icon shows a red light when you press any key on the keypad, wait for up to 5 minutes for the device to charge the capacitor. Then press any key on the keypad, the battery icon should show a green light and the access code unlock or Bluetooth unlock should work.

If keypad works but gives a low battery alarm:

  • Check if the batteries are too old or mixed with old and new batteries. Try to use three new Alkaline batteries or make sure the batteries are of the same voltage (same “age”).

If the batteries drain faster than normal:

  • Check if the batteries are Alkaline batteries or Lithium batteries. For Lithium batteries, check for the voltage. It should not be more than 1.5V.

If the MojoBox is closed and latched with batteries inside but keypad does not work:

  • Try to power it up via USB-C. This could take up to 5 minutes. Check to see a green light after pressing any key on the keypad.

If the MojoBox key compartment slider is stuck:

  • Using something hard, try to hit the bottom corner of the lockbox several times. Next, use the access code to unlock and move the slider to see if it works.
